“We live in an age of technology, but we believe in the HUMAN touch”.

Founded in 1978, The Davenport School @ International Preparatory Institute (IPI) is a private school serving children ages 2 through 12.  The circumstances, which evoked the founding of the school, are linked to a group of women of color educators – spearheaded by Dr. Vivien Davenport – who saw a need for an alternative for the educational development of children of Southwest Atlanta, Georgia.  This alternative model is predicated on academic, personal, social emotional, moral and spiritual growth.

IPI began as the International Center for Child Development and was housed in one building with an educational emphasis on pre-school children (ages 2-5).  In 1980, IPI was incorporated and began a gradual process of phasing in each grade level of the elementary school.
The school since its inception has serviced children far beyond the area which it was set forth, inclusive of metropolitan Atlanta and surrounding areas and will continue to do so.

In 1982, IPI became fully accredited with the Georgia Accrediting Commission. IPI also received membership in the Georgia Association of Independent Schools and the Atlanta Area Association of Independent Schools.
